Week 7

Week 6           BCDA Summer 2010 News      February 28, 2010

Well some interesting things beginning to shape up across all leagues, 6 of the 9 Divisions have tight races (4 games or less separate 1st and 2nd). And in Power 19 Silver only 6 games separate 1st from 6th. And in “B” Thursday, 9 games separate 1st from 5th. Plus with most of the leagues having playoffs, most teams are still in the hunt!

League Updates Week 6 – Feb. 16th thru Feb. 25th

(See website for standings) (Your bi-weekly dose of the Good, Bad, and Sarcastic thru Week 6)

Some of the highlights for Weeks 4 and 5 includes 18 Perfect Scores, 2 6-Corks (by Tenge!), and another 7 High-Ins/Outs.

Power 19 Gold

Brady’s # 1 holds a slight edge over Greenbrier # 2, and Archie’s # 3. And there is a bit of competition for that 4th and final playoff spot as well. Please note that Week 8 brings this league’s 1st Position Night. The Teams in 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th will host the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th place teams, based on the overall standing of the 8 teams. Tenge Brown nailed the 1st 6 cork or the season, Nice!

Masters

2 games separate Emerald Pub # 1 and Greenbrier # 4 as we come to Wk 7, the one-third mark! Brady’s is the last team with a bye and then in Week 8 the byes start back with Archie’s # 7 again. We have a tight situation from 4th to 7th only being separated by 5 games. Still wondering why the girls have NOT reported a High-Out?!? You have been playing the Single 501 games, right?? LOL! Tenge Brown nailed, yep you guessed it, another 6 cork!

Power 19 Silver

Very Competitive league: Greenbrier # 6 has a narrow lead but 6 teams all have 60 plus wins and are all 6 games within 1st place. Only 16 games separate 1st from 8th in a 10 team league! Wow! This league also had 5 perfect scores between weeks 4 and 5; and Nigel Jeanty took out a 13 dart – 501 Game, including a T80.

“A” Thursday

Brady’s # 5 and Biddy Early’s have improved their division leads in this league, Weeks 4 and 5 saw the I-95 division dominate the Turnpike teams, taking 5 of 6 matches in both weeks. Ouch! Week 5 also saw 3 perfect scores and a new High-Out for both the Men and Women.

“A” Weds.

This league has 6 teams over 40 wins, which is currently the playoff demarcation line! Long way to go! Also week 4 had new High-Outs both the Men and Women.

“B” Tuesday

40 wins also appears to be the demarcation line in this league as well for those coveted playoff spots! Greenbrier # 12 aside, 13 games separate 3rd from 8th, very competitive! And most everyone still remains in contention! Also week 4 had new High-Outs both the Men and Women.

“B” Thursday

5 teams within 9 games of First! Greenbrier # 10, Jesse’s Xtreme # 1, and O’Malley’s # 2 are within 3 games of each other at the top, while 3 or 4 more teams below them are poised to make a move, the question is, who will make that move?!

“C” Tuesday

Although Billy’s # 3 has jumped out front everyone still remains in contention! We excitedly await the Billy’s # 4 at Jester’s # 2 re-schedule from Week 3, that will get completed this coming Wednesday (3/3)! Thanks!

“C” Thursday

O’Malley’s # 6 is just 6 games up on JB Local’s # 6 with Jesse’s Xtreme # 2, O’Malley’s # 4, and Archie’s # 21 improving and prepared jump into the hunt for the lead.

GP’s Corner:   Part 2 -The Seven Deadly Sins of A Dart Pro

(Gerard pulled this out of his dart library, even though it comes from the world of pro darts, many of the underlying concepts apply to how you focus when you approach the throw line. (This has been edited for presentation purposes))

ARROGANCE-(Pride)

Well this sin is arrogance, or under another name too much pride. This makes it as a sin in my Pro Darter book. A Darter named Eric Bristow was arrogance personified and it did him no harm, though others hated him for it. Many believe that Darts is a sport where you have to have absolute belief in your ability that you will win. Maybe that’s self-belief rather that arrogance. Once the game is done, arrogance has no place. Confidence with a sense of humility is top dollar if you are a true star. Phil Taylor has it in spades, enough said!

AVARICE- (Greed)

I can understand the desire to be wealthy. Most Pro’s come from humble beginnings and, understandably, they have little desire to return to being that way. Prize money now is very high and demand for personal appearances and exhibitions rampant. The temptation is to accept every offer is, for some, overwhelming, resulting in a seven day work schedule once you take in Tournaments.

It cannot be worth it in the long run. It’s my contention that this type of life style will ruin personal relationships, cause health problems long term, and result in a loss of form. Lose that and you start on a downward spiral to oblivion. The ladder to success is steep and, usually, a long hard climb. The snake to nowhere is by comparison very quick and easy!

Take at least two to three days a week to be at home resting and being with your loved ones. It is always about the quality of your life, not the quantity. With a happy life, winning gets easier!

LUST

MMMM, what can I say? I have seen many with their careers go down the toilet as a result of, shall we say, an over complicated personal life. I (this Pro) was in the music business, so I am in no position to preach celibacy nor would I want to. However, winning takes such a focus, such single-mindedness that emotional turmoil of the heart or loins can ruin concentration. Try to keep it simple and uncomplicated.

These sins have brought down many a fine player, some with only one, others with multiple sins. Or course, we can’t all be Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, yet understanding and appreciating that winning is a privilege denied to most, but desired by ALL.

What the sins point out are the pitfalls, the stacking of the deck in the other guys favor. It’s hard enough to be successful, why make it harder? Oh yeah, practicing really helps too, but you knew that!!

Mailing of Score Sheets

Scoresheets can be folded in 3; the mailing address of the BCDA P.O. Box will be properly positioned on the outside, attached a stamp and write your Team Name and Number in the Return Address area so I can identify who has sent their sheets in. Separate Envelopes are NOT needed, save the expense. Just fold them in 3 and either tape or staple the corners shut and it will arrive just fine!

Season Ending Grab Bag: The season ending Grab Bag will be Thursday June 17th and the BCDA Summer 2010 Picnic will be that weekend. We will be looking for volunteers to help, we want to thanks those that helped last season and hope that a few more of you can give back a little to the league with your time if you can. Any and all help is appreciated!

Please note that for the Leagues with split divisions there will only be One (1) Overall High-In/Out, First in All-Stars, etc. Currently the website does not allow us to combine these at this point between the 2 divisions but is one of the planned upgrades over the next few weeks. This impacts Power 19 Gold, “A" Thursday, and “B” Tuesday.

C Tues. - Wk 3 – Billy’s Pub # 4 at Jester’s # 2 (Due 2/20, sched. for 3/3)

State Team Tryouts

February 20th had 15 Men and 9 Women tryout, unfortunately a number of people were unable to tryout due to scheduling conflicts. The next round will see the same round-robin format for both on March 20th.

Men are at Archie’s West

Women are at Brady's Pub

Start Time is 11:00 am, Each Day, Team Captain Elections will be scheduled shortly thereafter.

Reminder: Crazy Larry’s - Power 19 Gold and A Thursday Schedules

Crazy Larry's is in the process of transitioning to a new location and in the meantime will play all matches at the other team’s location regardless of who is shown as the home team.  In Power 19 Gold this will not be a potential issue until Week 11. The first match affected by this is this coming week (2/9) against Archie's # 4 and then (2/16) vs Archie's # 5. The alternate matches on 4/6 and 4/13 will be played at Crazy Larry's new location (TBD).

In A Thursday, things should be clear until Week 9 and the first team that could be impacted by this is in Week 6 against Biddy Early's. If the match is switched then the following match against the same opponent will be moved to Crazy Larry's, this does not impact Biddy Early's since they only play once. But will impact JB Local's # 3, the Week 7 and Week 18 matches will be switched. Jerry Cunningham and BCDA appreciates everyone understanding and patience during this transition.

Upcoming Position Nights

During the course of the next few weeks Power 19 Gold (3/9), “B” Tuesday (3/16), and  “A” Thursday (3/18) will all have their 1st Position Nights. The matches are based on the standings as of the weekend prior to the match. (Please report your scores promptly!)

The next league up for this is Power 19 Gold. The Week 8 matchups will be determined after the scores from the Week 7 matches are posted. The evenly placed teams (2, 4, 6, and 8th) will host the higher placed teams (1, 3, 5, and 7).

The following week “B” Tuesday on 3/16 and “A” Thursday 3/18 will be next up with a slightly different cross division format. As we get closer to the other matches, additional announcements will be posted.

Schedules:    All Schedules have been loaded! Each team Captain is responsible to ensure his/her team knows where they should be each week.

Currently Captain’s List is listed under the Home Page of the BCDA Website. This is provided so that Team Captains can communicate directly with each other to address re-scheduled matches and other issues that come up related to dart league and match play.

Closing

We have noticed a declining ability of teams to report scores and submit score sheets timely. As of week 4 the penalties listed in the rules will be imposed on all late reporting items! Yes, that means you! Timely reporting helps save us time and ensures that you are being respectful of the other teams within BCDA. This helps to insure the integrity of the numbers posted on the website and mailed out bi-weekly in the newsletter. With 81 teams you can see the need for each team to meet their short list of responsibilities and everyone thanks you for your efforts.

Call in your scores to 954-746-6401 within 24 hours if possible. No later than 5 pm Friday

Or you can E-mail your scores to: - edm.bcda@yahoo.com (preferred)

Archie’s West will accept your score sheets; they know my envelope behind the bar.

JB Local’s is also a drop-off point; the envelope is behind the bar. Pick-up is every other week.
